Hari Ki Pauri, Haridwar – Holy Ghat in Hindu Mythology

Haridwar one of the most ancient pilgrim center in India. Hari means Lord/God and Dwar means gateway. Hence, Haridwar means Gateway to the Lord. According to popular Hindu mythology, it was here, the lord Shiva released Goddess Ganga from the lock of his hair. It is regarded as one of the seven holiest places (Sapta Puri) to Hindus. Haridwar along with Ujjain, Nasik and Allahabad is one of the place where Amrit accidently spilled while being carried by the bird Garuda (Acrroding to Hindu Mythology). Brahma Kund, the spot where Amrit spilled, is located at Har Ki Pauri.

Har Ki Pauri is one of the sacred Ghat on the banks of river Ganga in Haridwar. Literally, Har means “Lord Shiva” Ki means “of” and Pauri means “steps”.
